Can you clean your oven with a dishwasher tab?

It’s the Sunday deep clean and you decide it’s finally time to tackle your oven… but how do you do this without a specific oven cleaner? You’ve heard of people using dishwasher tabs on burnt pans and all sorts before… so could it work in the oven as well?

Does it work?

This one could actually be a winner. First things first, pop some gloves on and dip the pod into some warm water so it soaks up a little bit (make sure it doesn’t crumble though). Then, use the tablet to scrub the inside of the oven like you would with a sponge, popping in under your hand. This should be able to get burnt on food and grime shifting (but don’t be scared to use a bit of elbow grease). When it’s loosened up, just use a damp sponge (we recommend Spongethings, which are compostable, to keep things eco) to remove the residue.

Should you do it?

Although this is a great way to get grime moving quickly, it’s best to make sure that all of the chemicals are fully removed before switching your oven back on (as you wouldn’t want any chemicals to react with the heat in the oven).

The bottom line.

Feel free to give it a whirl, just be extra careful to make sure there are no nasty chemicals left behind.

Although they aren’t designed for cleaning ovens (so we can’t recommend it ourselves) our Dishthings are non-toxic and 100% natural, so at least you won’t have to worry about it coming into contact with any food cooking away in there.
