Why Our Scents Make Sense (And Yours Might Be a Bit Bonkers)
TL;DR:
Our scents are safe, sustainable, subtle and make sense. But, they’re also skippable. :)
Let’s talk fragrance. We often get asked about them and its not surprising with so many overpowering, migraine-inducing, what-even-is-that-smelling cleaning products out there.
So, here’s a quick download on what fragrances we use and why.
At Homethings, our scents are:
🌿 IFRA certified (i.e. the fragrance police that say they’re safe)
🚫 Phthalate-free (because that’s important)
💧 Super low-dose (about 0.002% per cleaning spray)
That means our sprays won’t knock you out with a cloud of artificial “meadow breeze” — but they will leave things smelling fresh in a subtle way.
Essential oils? Not always that essential.
We use a super premium range of fragrances manufactured in the UK called ‘eco boost plus’. These are a groundbreaking sustainability innovation that mean you can use just 1/20th of the dosage compared to normal essential oils. And that matters.
Why?
Firstly, environmentally, because growing 10kg of rose petals for just 5ml of rose oil is… well, it’s kind of bonkers. It’s resource-heavy and thirsty work (like, gallons-of-water thirsty).
Secondly, because we make waterless innovations, our tiny but mighty tablets can't carry much fragrance anyway — or they’d fall apart. Literally. It's science. And logistics. So using low dose oils, that deliver really nice fresh and safe scents is a sweet spot for our innovations.
Less is more. And sometimes, none at all.
Some of our customers want zero fragrance — and that makes sense too. That’s why we’ve also launched a Fragrance Free range for those who’d rather keep it totally neutral.
